Crete Kournas
Lake Kournas

The Chania region around Almyrida is wonderful, with its picturesque villages like Plaka and Kokkino, and glorious views of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori). Another tip is Lake Kournas, which is surrounded by beautiful nature and is just under half an hour away with a rental car. Here, the whole family can enjoy a trip on a pedal boat and eat a delicious lunch with a view of Crete’s most photographed lake.

Another great option is to visit Chania by rental car or bus. You can easily spend a day visiting Chania, which is the second largest city on Crete. A good place to start is at the Venetian harbour, where you can stroll along the promenade with its cafés, restaurants and colourful buildings. This is also where the iconic Venetian lighthouse and the ancient Turkish mosque are located. Afterwards, you should visit the charming old town.
