Frangokastello is situated on the east coast of Crete, approx. 10 km east of Hora Sfakion. The distance to Chania on the north coast is approx. 75 km.
The beach in Frangokastello is beautifully situated with mountains in the background and the well-preserved fort/castle right next to the beach.
The beach almost has a triangular shape and thus both faces south-west and south-east. It is very rare to have waves at both beaches. The sand is bright and fine-grained, and the water is entirely clear. There are several sections with sun lounges and sunshades for rent.
There is lots of room to play and parts of the beach have very shallow water. Perfect for children.
There are no water sports activities.
Just behind the beach, you’ll find the Café Fata Morgana and on the other side of the road, Taverna Drosoulites, which serves Greek specialties.
Frangokastello holiday resort
Frangokastello is not an actual holiday resort yet, but during recent years, the development of the area has increased. There are several places in the area where you can rent holiday flats, just as there are also a few restaurants and very limited shopping facilities.
It is possible to access the fort/castle, which was built by the Venetians in 1371 to defend themselves against pirates and riots from the local population.
