Kalives (Kalyves)
Kalives (or Kalyves) is located in Souda Bay overlooking the Akrotiri peninsula, where the airport is located. The larger and more famous city of Chania is 18 kilometres to the northwest.
One of the most popular hotels in Kalives is the 4-star Kalives Beach, located directly on the beach and close to the town centre. The hotel has an all-inclusive option.
Kalives Beach
Kalives has a beautiful long beach in front of the town. The total length is 600 metres, but a small pier at an estuary divides the beach in two.
The beach is covered with fine-grained sand and there are several sections with sunbeds and umbrellas, but also areas where you can lie down on your own beach blanket. During the summer months, bathers are supervised by a lifeguard.
On the eastern side of the beach there is a small harbour and one of the smallest churches in Crete.
Child-friendly
The beach in Kalives is shallow and rarely has waves, making it very child-friendly.
Water sports
There are no water sports activities at the beach in Kalives, but there are in the neighbouring town of Almyrida, which is only a very short taxi ride away.
Beachfront restaurants
There are many restaurants and cafés right on the beach. The views from here are stunning while enjoying a good Greek lunch or perhaps a cool drink in the late afternoon.
Kalives holiday resort
Kalives is a rather small resort, but has everything holidaymakers typically need. Most shops are located on the through road that runs parallel to the coast. There are small supermarkets, two bakeries, greengrocers, a pharmacy and a number of sandwich bars, cafés and restaurants. By the town’s beautiful church there is a cosy little square with a few cafés and restaurants. The town’s meeting place for locals.
If you fancy more at some point, it’s easy to get to Chania, the second largest city in Crete. Here you’ll find shopping, a cosy old town and a beautiful Venetian harbour. Other great experiences are Lake Kournas and the large water park Limnoupolis. Places that are easiest to visit with a hire car.
