Paleochora beach - Chania CRETE

Paleochora is a popular lively resort on the south-west coast of Crete, 44 miles from Chania Town. Paleochora is set on a peninsular between two beautiful bays and surrounded by superb countryside with some of the finest coastline, beaches and water sports in Crete. It is an ideal place for those looking for a Crete beach destination with plenty of bustling life but remaining attractive to those anxious to avoid the really over-developed resorts. Paleochora is also popular with beach-lovers. Paleochora beach is on one side of the town and a small harbour on the other, where you will find more bars and cafes. Venetian ruins overlook the resort.

Paleochora's wide, deep crescent of fine sand is perhaps the best beach in any resort on Crete, making it well worth the two hour drive across the mountains from Chania to get to this simple farming and fishing village. Nightlife centres around the tavernas and bars on the main street, their tables spilling out into the road which is closed to traffic in the evenings. Conversations over dinner soon lead to new-found friendships among the cosmopolitan, relaxed crowd, and the atmosphere is altogether very laid back!
Whilst you're here, be sure to make the effort to walk the breathtaking (in more ways than one!) Samaria Gorge, with fabulous scenery and rocky walls rising to 1,000 feet in places - bring your trainers or walking shoes!
